In our first episode of 2023, we’re bringing you Dr. Bruce Perry, the world’s leading expert on childhood trauma & brain development. You might be familiar with his work because he last joined us on the Medspiration podcast in episode 11 (link above). Since we last spoke, Bruce has published a New York Times best selling book with Oprah Winfrey called: ‘What Happen to You?’
Bruce & Oprah's book just sold over 1 million copies & I could not think of a better way to wish each of our subscribers a happy 2023 than to share this carefully crafted conversation! The main theme of this episode is 'self-regulation', my intention in this interview was to lay out a simple neuro-scientifically backed, step by step process on how anyone can transform Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) into Post Traumatic Wisdom.

Pre-order Nicole's brand new book, 'Do The Work': https://www.amazon.com/How-Do-Work-Recognize-Patterns/dp/006301209X
In our first episode of 2021, we’re joined by Nicole LePera Ph.D. (@the.holistic.psychologist). Nicole is a Cornell University trained clinical psychologist who is arguably the most innovative educator of our time when it comes to teaching us more about ourselves & mental health.
As a clinical psychologist, Nicole often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients—and for herself—she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical & spiritual wellness that equips people with the interdisciplinary tools necessary to heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she’d learned with others—and soon “The Holistic Psychologist” was born. Now, Dr. LePera is ready to share her much-requested protocol with the world.
In today's episode, Nicole offers both a manifesto for SelfHealing as well as an essential guide to creating a more vibrant, authentic, and joyful life. Drawing on the latest research from a diversity of scientific fields and healing modalities, Dr. LePera helps us recognize how adverse experiences and trauma in childhood live with us, resulting in whole body dysfunction—activating harmful stress responses that keep us stuck engaging in patterns of codependency, emotional immaturity, and trauma bonds. Unless addressed, these self-sabotaging behaviors can quickly become cyclical, leaving people feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, and unwell. This episode offers listeners the support and tools that will allow them to break free from destructive behaviors to reclaim and recreate their lives. Nothing short of a paradigm shift, this is a celebration of empowerment that will forever change the way we approach mental wellness and self-care.
If you listened to our season 1 episodes with Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Bruce Perry, Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk & Dr. Shefali, you will realize that Nicole’s work is from their school of thought & offers some of the most innovative approaches to understanding & healing from our traumas.

If Exercise Were a Pill
Monday Jul 13, 2020

If Exercise were a pharmaceutical pill, it would create a multi-trillion dollar conglomerate & every doctor in the world would be prescribing it. It would create better insulin sensitivity, reduce stress, improve brain health, reduce & even reversing chronic disease, enhance detoxification, slow the aging process & improve sexual function, ALL in one!!! It has even been demonstrated that one to two hours of exercise a week in adults can prevent depression. Here's a paper published in the American Journal of psychiatry in 2017 elaborated on an 11 year study on almost 34,000 people that proved this:
In this episode, we talk about some of the latest & greatest findings in the field of exercise science. I mention a study in this episode that absolutely blew away the world. It was a 2018 large-scale study of more than 100,000 patients by the Harvard School of Public Health. It found that those who chose to eat a healthy diet rich in vegetables, exercise at least 30 minutes a day, maintain a healthy body weight, limit their alcohol use, & chose not to smoke during adulthood, had an 82% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, a 65% lower chance of dying from cancer, and a 74% lower risk of dying from all causes during follow-up. Here's the link to this study:
Exercise has also been shown to improve the heart's ejection fraction:

This was a quick 10 minute episode that was inspired by my attending physician on this month's hospital service, thank you Dr. Eukesh Ranjit.
